Newbern Elementary School proudly presents our Teacher of the Year, Mr. Michael Kidd. Mr. Kidd has taught music to all the students at our school for the past 4 years. Students in his music class spend time singing, dancing and moving. In his own words, Mr. Michael said, “At the end of the day, when my students grow up I want them to be able to sing lullabies to their children using a good singing voice, be able to dance at their wedding without looking awkward, and be able to articulate the feelings that music gives them.”
Michael earned his BA degree in music education at UT Martin in 2015. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha, a men’s music fraternity. At Newbern Elementary he is on the Leadership Team, PBIS Team and a facilitator for RTI2B. For the past 2 years he has given the 4th and 5th grade choir the experience of participating in the Treble Honor Choir on the UTM campus. He also has been a huge help with our fifth grade musical each year.
Dyer County High School is also fortunate to have Mr. Kidd working with the band as assistant band director.
At first Christian Church Michael volunteers with the youth worship band and also leads kids worship on Sundays.
Michael is engaged to Sesley Welch. They plan to marry in June of this year.
We are so proud of him and the energy he has brought to our school. Congratulations Mr. Michael Kidd, our Teacher of the Year.
